KMAC Regatta in San Diego

On April 23–25, BAADS small boat sailors participated in Challenged Sailors’ annual Kyle MacArthur (KMAC) Regatta at Glorieta Bay hosted by the Coronado Yacht Club. This year BAADS brought four Hansa 303’s to compete alongside the eight Martin 16’s and six Harbor 20’s. There was a racing clinic hosted by CYC on the first day followed by two days of racing.
Our own, Carwile LeRoy, along with crew Steve Edenson, took first place in the Martin 16 division. Jim Thweatt took first in the Hansa 303 closely followed by Jim’s son Danny, Paul Speight and John Wallace. In addition to the sailors, BAADS brought a full contingent of support crew including Chris Naughton, Eric Roberts, Kathi Thweatt and John and Karen Greener.
During the awards ceremony on Sunday evening, Challenged Sailors gave out the inaugural Fernanda Castelo Memorial Award. All participants voted to award the sailor who “displayed spirit, grace, love for the sport and motivation to all.” The award was given out by Fernanda’s sister, Gina, who drove down for the event.
Everyone agreed it was a fantastic weekend of racing and good fun was had by all!
