2021 BAADS Board Positions & Committees

Commodore: Kathi Pugh commodore@baads.org

Oversees overall operation of BAADS including execution of all contracts. Presides over board meetings and acts as official representative and spokesperson. Works with officers and program directors on projects and ongoing activities. Liaison with SF Port Authority, South Beach Harbor Master, South Beach Yacht Club and other yacht clubs. Coordinates all insurance matters. Drafts member correspondence including Pirates Log.

Vice Commodore: Chris Naughton vicecommodore@baads.org

Stands in for Commodore, as needed. Board liaison to South Beach Yacht Club and attends monthly meetings in place of Commodore.

Treasurer: Ralph Vomaske treasurer@baads.org

Supervises the charge, custody and deposit of funds. Keeps and maintains correct accounts of business transactions. Provides reports and accountings. 

Oversees finances of the organization. Coordinates preparation and timely filing of tax returns. Prepares monthly financial reports and quarterly budget reports.

Finance: Chris Naughton finance@baads.org

Handles banking and PayPal matters. Reviews and processes all reimbursement requests and bills. Writes checks or uses bankcard or PayPal for reimbursement requests or bills of organization. Scans and files important documents including reimbursements. Drafts relevant policies regarding disbursements. Picks up and processes US mail.

Secretary: Charles Wienbar secretary@baads.org

Takes minutes at Board meetings including the Annual Meeting. Completes paperwork for annual property exemptions and other related documents. Maintains organization’s permanent records including boat titles and registration, insurance, bylaws, meeting minutes, membership records, financial statements and other records. Supervises the giving of notices and posting of documents required to be public. Handles annual election.

Small Boats: Chris Naughton smallboats@baads.org

Responsible for all aspects of the Small Boat Sailing Program including development of policies and annual program budget. Oversees all issues ranging from size of fleet, acquisitions, dispositions, maintenance, etc. Manages maintenance of program vessels, equipment, and supplies.  dinghies and chase boats, safety gear and supplies. Coordinates Saturday small boat sailing including dock masters and volunteers. Provides instruction to sailors and volunteers. With Racing Director, helps coordinate annual Herb Meyer Regatta.

Keelboats: Ed Gallagher & Jim Staley keelboats@baads.org

Responsible for all aspects of the Keelboat Sailing Program including development of policies and annual program budget. Oversees all issues ranging from size of fleet, acquisitions, dispositions, maintenance, etc. Manages proper maintenance of keelboats, equipment, and supplies. Oversees skipper training and qualification

Keelboat Scheduler: Cristina Rubke keelboats@baads.org

Schedules program sailing and assigns proper crew and skippers. Works with Keelboat Director(s) to recruit and train skippers.

Racing: Cristina Rubke racing@baads.org

Responsible for all aspects of the Racing Program including development of policies and annual program budget. Identifies racing opportunities for BAADS members. Manages PHRF certificates for BAADS vessels. Coordinates club participation in YRA, local, national, and international races. With Small Boat Director, coordinates annual Herb Meyer Regatta.

Safety & Training: Jim Staley safety@baads.org

Oversees BAADS training of sailors and skippers, including the development of procedures and checklists as appropriate to ensure the safety of all participants. Oversees safety initiatives, including development of policies and procedures for maintaining safety equipment. Responsible for investigating all safety incidents including reporting procedures.

Social Activities: Pam Prentice social@baads.org

Plans and implements ongoing social activities including annual and special events such as joint parties with SBYC. Coordinates with others for food and drink for meetings and events.

Outreach & Engagement: Pam Prentice outreach@baads.org

Coordinates participation at community outreach events. Manages all social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, etc. Works with Media & Communications Director to regularly take photos and videos to chronicle organization events and training videos. Provides content for Pirates Log and website from social media posts. Reaches out to new members and volunteers to encourage participation.

Development: Cristina Rubke development@baads.org

Identifies grants and other funding opportunities. Along with Commodore, drafts grant applications and grant reports.

Webmaster: Francisco Peralta webmaster@baads.org

In charge of developing and maintaining the organization‘s website including announcements. Posts Pirates Log, approved minutes and other club documents in a timely manner. Manages Google site and board alias emails. Helps develop member announcements and website content.

Media & Communications: Josh Maddox pirateslog@baads.org

Responsible for monthly member newsletter and other media, including regularly taking photos and videos to chronicle organization events. Coordinates information posted on website and social media to ensure content is informative and timely. Develops print material.

SBYC Representative:

Represents the South Beach Yacht Club on BAADS Board of Directors. Works with BAADS SBYC’s representative on joint projects. Looks for opportunities to partner together on racing, social activities, etc.
