2020 BAADS Board of Directors Positions

Commodore: Kathi Pugh commodore@baads.org
Oversees overall operation of BAADS. Presides over board meetings, acts as official representative & spokesperson. Works with officers & program directors on projects & ongoing activities. Liaison with SF Port Authority & South Beach Harbor Master. Liaison with South Beach Yacht Club and other yacht clubs. Coordinates all insurance matters. Reviews all grant proposals for restricted funds to ensure organization can meet specifications. Works with development committee to coordinate donor recognition. Drafts member newsletter & notices. Oversees social media accounts.

Vice Commodore: Chris Naughton vicecommodore@baads.org
Stands in for Commodore, as needed. Board liaison to SBYC & attends monthly meetings in place of Commodore. 

Treasurer: Ralph Vomaske treasurer@baads.org
Handles the finances of the organization. Maintains the books of the organization. Coordinates the preparation & timely filing of tax returns. Prepares monthly financial reports & quarterly budget reports. Works with Finance Director on disbursements. Drafts policies regarding reimbursement & financial procedures. Works with Development Committee & Finance Director to provide for the financial stability of the organization. Works with the Boat Donation Committee to ensure that all tax paperwork is done correctly. 

Finance: Chris Naughton finance@baads.org 
Works with Treasurer, Secretary & Development Committee. Handles banking & PayPal matters. Reviews all reimbursement requests & bills. Writes checks or uses PayPal for reimbursement requests & bills of organization. Scans & files important documents including reimbursements. Drafts relevant policies regarding disbursements. Picks up & processes US mail.

Secretary: Charles Wienbar secretary@baads.org
Takes minutes at all meetings & maintains the organization’s permanent records including boat titles, registration, insurance, bylaws, meeting minutes, financial statements and other records. Develops policies & procedures regarding record-keeping. Handles general administrative matters including insurance, licensing, annual election & other issues. Ensures that all boats are properly licensed each year. Drafts relevant policies regarding titles, licenses & registrations. Works with Boat Donation Committee to ensure that all titles, licenses & registrations are transferred appropriately.

Small Boats: Chris Naughton smallboats@baads.org
Responsible for Small Boat Sailing Program. Handles all issues ranging from size of fleet, acquisitions, dispositions, maintenance, etc. In charge of maintaining the fleet of dinghies (boats, sails, rigging, chase boats, motors, etc.). Coordinates Saturday small boat sailing including dock masters & volunteers.

Keelboats: Ed Gallagher  keelboats@baads.org
Responsible for Keelboat Sailing Program. Handles all issues ranging from size of fleet, acquisitions, dispositions, maintenance, etc. In charge of maintaining the fleet of keelboats (boats, sails, rigging, motors, etc.). Ensures that all skippers have been properly trained & checked out. Works with Boat Donation Committee to determine if a boat is appropriate for the Keelboat Program.

Parasailing & Training: Carwile LeRoy racing@baads.org
Coordinates annual Herb Meyer Regatta. Coordinates with Racing Committee on other national and international regattas. Works with Committee to improve racing skills of our sailors. Plan speakers for education of racers. Outreach to other yacht clubs for support, expertise & training. Identifies possible funding grants.

Social Activities: Mary Kay Sisson social@baads.org
Works with the board to plan & implement ongoing social activities including annual & special events such as joint parties with SBYC. Coordinates participation including food & drink for meetings & events. Represents BAADS at PICYA.

Outreach, Membership & Volunteers: Nettie Wijsman outreach@baads.org
Coordinates participation at community outreach events. Sends membership letter & temporary badge to all new members. Develops policies around membership including dues & volunteer hours. Develop policies regarding volunteers & volunteer acknowledgment. Responds to general inquiries. 

Webmaster: Daniel Margulies webmaster@baads.org
In charge of developing & maintaining the organization‘s website. Ensures that all website pages are current & links are working. Works with Secretary to post approved minutes & other club documents. Maintains “Board Only” page so essential policies & documents are easily accessible to board members.

Media & Communications: Josh Maddox pirateslog@baads.org
Responsible for monthly member newsletter, banners and all media, including regularly taking photos & videos to chronicle organization events. Coordinates information posted on website & social media to ensure content is informative & timely. Works with other contributors to regularly post information on newsletter, website & social media (Facebook & Instagram) pages as well as print media.

SBYC Representative: Ken Ludlum
Representative of the South Beach Yacht Club to BAADS Board of Directors. Informs BAADS of SBYC’s activities & vice a versa. Looks for opportunities to partner together on cruise outs, racing, social activities, etc.

Standing Committees & Chairpersons

Works with Treasurer & Development Committee to provide for the financial sustainability of the organization (memberships, grant writing, donations, etc.) Works with Commodore to coordinate donor acknowledgment & end of year grant reports.

Boat Donation Committee:  Gary Goldsbourgh boatdonations@baads.org
Responsible for reviewing any possible boat donations. Works with Keelboat Director & Commodore to determine whether boat should be acquired by organization. Recommends to Keelboat Committee possible boats to become program boats. Works with Finance Director to ensure that all paperwork is done correctly. Works with development & communications to provide donor recognition.

Para Sailing Racing Program: Jim Thweatt (small boats) & Walt Rainier (keelboats including blind racing) racing@baads.org
Works with Director of Para Sailing, Education & Training to develop budgets, organize trainings & coordinate regatta participation for all racers. Manages logistics, maintenance & racing for Sonar. Identifies funding sources to support racing for the organization & individuals. Solicits community resources for training & education on race tactics & understanding racing rules.

Bosun: Gary Goldsborough bosun@baads.org
Ensures keelboats are safe for sailing. Makes repairs on keelboats (work orders and urgent repairs). Inspects & inventory boats. Performs regular maintenance on all BAADS motors & engines. Decide whether boats should be taken offline if deemed unsafe or not working properly. Keep log showing completed work and repairs. Ensure dock is clean & equipment is available for Sunday sailing.
