1) Basically, Reverse of Getting Underway, Leaving Port (covered in T3A1)
2) Personnel Assignments:
a. Skipper- In charge, responsible for all activities and the safety
of the crew
b. Foredeck- 2 people to ensure mainsail comes down smoothly, and is
flaked properly. Take sail ties (gaskets) with you, and secure sail to
boom.
c. Main Halyard- to lower the mainsail- on command from foredeck
d. Jib Sheet Handlers- to maintain slight tension while stowing jib,
then stow sheets
e. Main Sheet- to center (traveler) and take slack out of sheet as required.
f. Fenders- 1 or 2 people
g. Lookout- in the eyes of the boat (forward, best (safe) position for
height-of-eye advantage)
h. Mooring Line Handlers- depending on circumstances, usually 1 or 2
required
i. Other Line Handlers as needed:
i. Jib Furling (Reefing) line
ii. Topping Lift (Dutchman System)
3) Arrive off harbor entrance, leaving room to maneuver
a. Check for lines in the water!!!
b. Start engine (neutral)
c. Come head to wind, put engine into gear, increase throttle to maintain
steady (safe) course
d. Stow the jib
e. Take down, stow the main
4) Head in-
a. Fenders out
b. Lookout posted
c. Slow to 5 Kts inside harbor
d. Lifelines down as approach pier
