1) Opposite Tack Rule:

a. Starboard Tack has right of way

2) Same Tack Rule (same point of sail):

a. Leeward boat has right of way

3) Same Tack Rule (different points of sail) (crossing):

a. Close hauled boat has right of way (boat sailing to windward)

4) Overtaking Rule:

a. Slower boat has right of way

5) Power –vs- Sail Rule:

a. Sailboat has right of way

6) Large Vessels in Restricted Channels Rule

a. Sailboats give way to ships constrained to channels

7) Port-to-Port Rule

a. Keep to the right hand side in a channel, i.e.- pass port-to-port
