Meet Alex Simonis, the SV14 Designer
At our next BAADS Membership Meeting on Sunday May 20th at 11:30 AM, meet Alex Simonis, one of the designers of the exciting new SV14 accessible sailboat. In 1998, he won his first USBoat of the Year award with the Mooring 45 catamaran. Today’s tally stands at 10 International Boat of Year awards received for Multi as well as Monohulls. (See full bio below) Alex is passionate about the SV14 project and will be in town all the way from Cape Town, Africa for the official dry launch party at Spaulding Center in Sausalito.
Alex will give a presentation and show some photos of the SV14 project at our membership meeting so we hope to have a full house. Afterwards he’d like to meet with BAADS members interested in the project and discuss ideas for the SV14 in the future. BAADS members have already participated in this process as Spaulding Center designed their SV14 with a custom keel based on some of our feedback. Alex and the SV14 community welcome as much input as possible so bring your questions and ideas so they can continue to improve the boat. Then he’s off to the Spaulding launch party…
Same Day – Sunday, May 20 Spaulding Party
BAADS is also invited to Spaulding Boatworks (600 Gate 5 Rd, Sausalito) from 5-9 PM to celebrate the dry launch of the SV14, a sailboat specially designed for sailors with disabilities. In addition to a silent auction, the party will include tasty treats, beer and wine from local vintners. Spaulding boats and student projects will be on display, along with special guests, music, and as always, lots of salty atmosphere.
