UPDATE ON BLIND MATCH RACING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2016 Blind Match Racing World Championships wrapped up last weekend on September 25 and capped off a week of action packed racing.  Walt Raineri, Skipper of Team USA 1 representing BAADS, along with main trimmer Scott  Ford and jib trimmer Kris Scheppe, lead his team to a Bronze Medal in the Championships.  This is the first time a USA team ever won a podium spot in the Blind match Racing World Championships.

On a related note, it turns out that the TV network CNN thought that the concept of blind match racing generally, and the Team USA 1 story specifically, would make a good documentary so they had a production crew out for the pre-race practices and the documentary under the CNN “big Picture” segment category will be airing in mid-October on CNN.  On the same topic, the subject matter also caught the eye of the producers of the National Public Radio program entitled “Our American Stories” and Walt Raineri will be featured in an upcoming version of that radio program as well highlighting the sport of blind sailing. Stay tuned for additional information about these national media programs in upcoming newsletters.  Go Team BAADS.
